Race Car Registry — Terms of Use

Race Car Registry (“Race Car Registry”, “RCR”, “we”, “us” or “the Registry”) is an independent historical documentation project for individual racing cars, their components, identity, provenance, evidence and history.

By creating an account or submitting content to Race Car Registry, you agree to these Terms of Use.
1. Purpose of Race Car Registry
Race Car Registry is intended to document the identity, provenance, configuration, history and current status of individual racing cars and related components.
The Registry is a research and documentation resource. It is not an official manufacturer, constructor, team, governing-body, vehicle-authentication or valuation service unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The presence of a vehicle, component, claim, photograph or other information in the Registry does not by itself establish authenticity, ownership, legal title, originality, race history or value.
2. Accounts
Public Registry information may be viewed without an account.
An account is required to contribute content.
You are responsible for:
- providing accurate account information;
- maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials;
- activity carried out through your account; and
- notifying Race Car Registry if you believe your account has been compromised.
First name and last name are optional account fields. They are private by default and are not automatically displayed publicly. A user may later choose to use that name publicly for a specific purpose, for example as a photographer credit.
You may not impersonate another person, organisation, manufacturer, constructor, team, owner, custodian or representative.
3. User contributions
Registered users may contribute information including vehicle records, components, claims, explanations, photographs, evidence and sightings.
You remain responsible for content you submit.
You must not knowingly submit information that is false, misleading, fabricated or materially misrepresented.
Historical research is often uncertain. Good-faith disagreement, competing interpretations and incomplete information are permitted and are an expected part of the Registry.
Where appropriate, users should distinguish documented fact from interpretation, recollection, belief or inference.
4. Claims and Registry interpretation
User-submitted claims may become publicly visible immediately and may initially be marked as unconfirmed or otherwise indicate their verification status.
Multiple competing or contradictory claims may remain visible.
Race Car Registry moderators may designate one claim as the current Registry interpretation for a particular subject. This represents the Registry's current working interpretation of the available information and does not necessarily mean that the claim has been conclusively proven.
A Registry interpretation may change when better evidence becomes available.
Older or superseded claims may remain visible in order to preserve the historical record of how an identification or interpretation developed.
5. Evidence
Users may submit documentary, photographic or other evidence in support of or against claims.
Evidence may be designated as public, private or restricted to moderators where the Registry provides such options.
Private or moderator-only evidence may be reviewed by authorised Race Car Registry personnel but will not intentionally be made publicly accessible through the normal public interface.
The existence of private evidence may be referenced publicly without exposing the underlying material.
6. Photographs and other copyrighted material
You may only upload photographs or other copyrighted material if you have the necessary right, permission or other lawful basis to do so.
When uploading a photograph, you are responsible for providing accurate information regarding, where applicable:
- the photographer;
- the copyright holder;
- the source of the photograph;
- the applicable licence; and
- any required attribution.
Race Car Registry does not routinely or independently verify the copyright or licensing status of every user-uploaded photograph.
The person uploading the material is responsible for ensuring that the material may lawfully be uploaded and published and that any licence or attribution information supplied is accurate.
Providing a source URL, photographer name or copyright notice does not by itself give permission to reproduce a photograph.
7. Photograph licences
Where supported by the upload system, users may specify a licence for a photograph.
Available options may include:
- All rights reserved;
- Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0);
- Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0);
- Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal; and
- another specified or custom licence.
The licence selected by the uploader is information supplied by that user.
Race Car Registry does not guarantee that the uploader was legally entitled to apply the selected licence.
Unless a photograph is expressly identified as being available under a licence permitting reuse, visitors should not assume that they are permitted to copy, redistribute or otherwise reuse it.
8. Rights confirmation for uploads
When uploading photographs or other copyrighted material, you may be required to confirm that you own the necessary rights to upload the material, or have permission or another lawful basis to do so, and that the attribution and licensing information you supplied is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Race Car Registry may record the account, date, document version and cryptographic hash of the rights declaration accepted at the time of upload.
9. Licence granted to Race Car Registry
You retain any rights you hold in content that you submit.
By submitting content, you grant Race Car Registry a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, technically process, resize, generate thumbnails from, display and make that content available as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, back up and present the Registry.
This licence does not transfer ownership of your content to Race Car Registry.
Where you have selected a public licence such as a Creative Commons licence, use by third parties is governed by that licence.
Where content is marked “All rights reserved”, submission to the Registry does not grant the general public any additional right to reuse the material merely because it is publicly viewable on the website.
Following removal, copies may remain temporarily in technical backups or records required for security, legal or administrative purposes.
10. Prohibited content and conduct
You may not use Race Car Registry to:
- upload content that you know you do not have the right to publish;
- deliberately provide false copyright or licensing information;
- fabricate evidence or deliberately misrepresent its origin;
- impersonate another person or organisation;
- harass, threaten or abuse other users;
- unlawfully publish personal information;
- upload malicious software or attempt to compromise the website;
- interfere with the operation or security of the Registry;
- use automated systems in a manner that places unreasonable load on the service;
- manipulate Registry records in bad faith; or
- use the service for unlawful purposes.
11. Moderation
Race Car Registry may review, annotate, restrict, hide or remove user-submitted material where reasonably necessary, including where material:
- violates these Terms;
- appears unlawful;
- infringes or plausibly infringes third-party rights;
- is spam, malicious or abusive;
- creates a security risk;
- contains personal information that should not be public; or
- seriously undermines the integrity of the Registry.
Moderation may involve human review and technical anti-abuse measures.
Race Car Registry does not undertake to pre-screen or independently fact-check every contribution before it becomes visible.
Where practical and appropriate, users may be informed of significant moderation actions affecting their content or account and may contact info@racecarregistry.org if they believe a decision was made in error.
12. Copyright and other rights complaints
If you believe that material available through Race Car Registry infringes your copyright or other rights, contact info@racecarregistry.org.
Please provide enough information for us to identify and assess the issue, preferably including:
- your name and contact information;
- the specific Race Car Registry page or URL involved;
- identification of the photograph, work or material concerned;
- an explanation of the rights you claim;
- why you believe the use is unauthorised or otherwise unlawful; and
- any supporting information reasonably available to you.
Race Car Registry may temporarily restrict access to disputed material while a complaint is reviewed.
We may contact the uploader for further information where appropriate.
Material may be restored where a complaint is withdrawn, resolved or found not to justify continued restriction.
13. Third-party names, trademarks and logos
Race Car Registry documents historical racing vehicles and may therefore display manufacturer names, constructor names, team names, logos, trademarks, liveries and other identifying material belonging to third parties.
Such material remains the property of its respective rights holders.
Its display by Race Car Registry is intended for identification, documentation and historical reference and does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, approval or affiliation unless explicitly stated.
14. Owners, custodians and representatives
Race Car Registry may identify some users as verified owners, custodians, former team members, experts or representatives.
Verification of a person's relationship to a vehicle or organisation does not mean that every statement made by that person has been independently verified or endorsed by Race Car Registry.
Similarly, a historical ownership claim recorded in the Registry should not be treated as legal proof of title.
15. Accuracy of information
Race Car Registry aims to maintain a useful and evidence-based historical record, but racing-car history can be incomplete, disputed or incorrectly documented.
Information is therefore provided on an as-is and as-available basis.
Race Car Registry does not guarantee that information is complete, current or error-free.
Users should independently verify information before relying on it for purchasing, selling, authenticating, valuing, insuring, restoring or making legal decisions concerning a vehicle or component.
16. No professional authentication or valuation
Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, Race Car Registry does not provide:
- certificates of authenticity;
- legal title verification;
- professional vehicle inspections;
- valuations;
- appraisals;
- legal opinions; or
- guarantees concerning provenance or originality.
A Registry record or Registry interpretation must not be represented as an official certificate of authenticity.
17. Availability of the service
Race Car Registry may change, maintain, suspend or discontinue parts of the service where reasonably necessary.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or permanent preservation of every item submitted to the service.
Users should retain their own copies of important original documents and photographs.
18. Suspension or termination of accounts
Race Car Registry may restrict or suspend an account where there is a reasonable basis to believe that the user has seriously or repeatedly violated these Terms, abused the Registry or created a legal or security risk.
Where appropriate, lesser measures may be used before account suspension.
Users may contact info@racecarregistry.org regarding an account restriction or suspension.
Termination of an account does not necessarily require removal of historical Registry contributions where continued retention is justified for the integrity of the historical record, legal obligations, dispute records or other legitimate purposes.
Personal data remains subject to applicable data-protection law and the Race Car Registry Privacy Policy.
19. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Race Car Registry is not liable for losses arising solely from reliance on inaccurate, incomplete or disputed user-contributed historical information.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by law.
Nothing in these Terms affects mandatory rights that a user may have under applicable law.
20. Privacy
Processing of personal data is governed separately by the Race Car Registry Privacy Policy.
Where a user's real name is optional, providing it does not automatically make that name public.
A user may expressly choose to make a name public for a particular purpose, such as attribution as the photographer of a photograph.
21. Changes to these Terms
Race Car Registry may update these Terms where necessary to reflect changes to the service, its policies or applicable legal requirements.
Each materially changed version is stored as a new versioned document rather than silently replacing the historical version.
The current version and effective date are published on the website.
Where a change materially affects registered users, reasonable efforts will be made to provide appropriate notice and, where appropriate, renewed acceptance may be requested.
22. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Slovenia, without prejudice to any mandatory rights or protections that apply under applicable law.
Any jurisdiction clause or choice of law applies only to the extent permitted by law.
23. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect to the extent permitted by law.
